The short version

What you play instead of a squad

A prediction league is a season-long game where each member forecasts real match results before kickoff and earns points for accuracy. Unlike Fantasy Premier League there is nothing to manage between gameweeks — no squad, no budget, no player points, no chips.

The competition is about reading matches rather than building a roster. You look at the fixtures, you call the scores, and the app does the rest.

This page is not an argument that FPL is bad — it is a very good game, and millions of people love it. It is for the people in your group who love the competition but not the homework, and who quietly stop opening the app around November.

How it works

Your league is live in three steps

No squad to pick, no budget to balance, nothing to score by hand.

STEP 1

Download BeTeam

Free on iOS and Android. No card, no deposit, no trial that expires.

STEP 2

Create the league

Pick the Premier League 2026/27 season. All 380 fixtures load in with their kickoff times — and that is the entire setup.

STEP 3

Send one link

Drop it in the same chat where your mini-league trash talk already lives. Everyone predicts the gameweek in about five minutes.

Proof it holds up

What happened when the World Cup ran on BeTeam

Five weeks, one tournament, and a lot of groups exactly like yours. Every number below is a raw count from our production database, not a marketing estimate.

472,050score predictions submitted
3,572private leagues created
~80%of all users predicted on the peak matchday
28×growth in five weeks, organizer-led

Figures cover 1 June – 9 July 2026. A World Cup is a spike, not a normal month — the number that matters here is the ~80%, because it is the participation rate a low-admin game gets when a squad-management game would already have lost half the group. Full methodology is in the World Cup 2026 case study.

Scoring

Your points come from your own calls

No captain getting benched, no player who did not start. Every point on the board is a match you read correctly.

3
Exact score
You said 2-1, it finished 2-1
1
Right outcome
Correct winner or draw, wrong scoreline
0
Miss
Wrong result — better luck next gameweek

Then the multipliers that keep gaps closeable

FPL's mini-league problem is that a big early lead is nearly unassailable, so people stop bothering. These exist to stop that: the organizer picks which to use, and they compound.

Predictions lock the second the match kicks off, so nobody can quietly edit a pick at half-time. Want to tune it? Read the full scoring rulebook or design your own points system with the free scoring calculator.

10.4%of predictions nail the exact score

We analysed 194,812 real predictions from BeTeam leagues. Fans get the outcome right 60% of the time, but the exact scoreline only 10.4% — which is why the game stays hard enough to be worth winning even though it takes five minutes. See the full research →

Why groups switch — or add a side game

The three complaints a prediction league answers

The time problem

FPL rewards the manager with the most hours. A prediction league rewards whoever reads football best — so the casual fan in your group finally has a chance, and the whole group stays in.

The November problem

Every mini league has members whose squads are abandoned by mid-season. Here there is nothing to abandon — each gameweek is a fresh set of predictions, and relative scoring keeps gaps closeable.

The luck complaint

No more losing a week because your captain was benched or your differential got subbed at half-time. Your points come only from your own calls on real matches.

Private, with the chat built in

A closed league with only the people you invite, and the banter in the same place as the table — not a mini league buried inside a global game.

No real money — ever

No deposits, no withdrawals, no cash prizes, no odds. Points and pride only, which is what makes it safe for the office and the family.

Everything in one app

Predictions, automatic scoring, live table and group chat — plus the Champions League, the Europa League or LaLiga in the same group.

Compare

FPL vs a prediction league, honestly

Both are free and both are good. They ask for very different amounts of your week — and they test different things.

Fantasy Premier League compared with a BeTeam prediction league
BeTeam prediction league Fantasy Premier League
Weekly time ~5 minutes: predict the scores, done Transfers, captaincy, price watching — often hours
What you manage Nothing — fixtures load automatically 15-player squad, budget, chips
Missed a week? A few points behind, still in it Dead team, points bleed, guilt
Skill tested Reading real matches — who wins and by how much Roster building and fixture planning
Group setting Private league, only who you invite, chat built in Mini league inside a global game of millions

You don't have to choose

The most common setup we see: the group keeps its FPL mini league and runs a BeTeam prediction league next to it as the second table. It answers the question FPL can't — who actually predicts matches best, without squad-value luck — and it keeps the members who gave up on transfers involved in the banter every single gameweek. Setup is one invite link, in the group chat where the mini-league trash talk already lives.

2026/27 calendar

Key dates for the season

  • Friday 21 August 2026
Gameweek 1 — Arsenal v Coventry City opens the season, with the rest across the weekend. Predictions lock at each kickoff, so get the group in before the first whistle.
  • November 2026
The month FPL squads start getting abandoned. Nothing here goes stale — anyone who drifted off can come back the following week and still be in the table.
  • January 2027
A natural point to start a second-half mini-league so anyone who joined late still has something to play for.
  • Sunday 30 May 2027
Final day. Ten matches at once, and usually the gameweek that decides your table.

Every other 2026/27 start date — the Champions League, LaLiga, Serie A and more — is on the football season calendar.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is a good alternative to Fantasy Premier League?

A score-prediction league. In BeTeam you predict the score of each Premier League match before kickoff instead of managing a squad — no transfers, no chips, no price changes, about five minutes a gameweek, on a private leaderboard with your friends. Free, with no real money.

How much time does it take compared to FPL?

About five minutes a gameweek — enter your predictions and you're done. No transfer planning, no captaincy agonising, no price tracking, no injury-news scrolling on a Friday night.

Can I run a prediction league alongside my FPL mini league?

Yes, and it's the most common setup we see. Keep the mini league and add BeTeam as the second table for the same group. One invite link, and even the members who abandoned their squads in November stay in the weekly competition.

Is BeTeam a fantasy football game?

No. There are no squads, budgets, or player points. You predict real match scores and earn points for accuracy — it's a prediction league, not a fantasy game, and it's free with no real money.

What happens if I miss a gameweek?

Far less than in FPL. There's no squad to go stale, so a missed gameweek costs you only the points you didn't earn — you're a few points behind, not out of it. Nothing has to be repaired when you come back.

Does the best football fan win, or the person with the most time?

The one who reads matches best. Because there's no roster to optimise, extra hours of research stop paying off quickly — which is why the casual fan in the group actually has a chance, and why more of the group is still playing in March.

How does scoring work?

BeTeam's default is 3 points for the exact scoreline, 1 point for the correct outcome with the wrong score, and 0 for a miss. The organizer can change the weights, add bonus questions, and switch on multipliers — a Super Game is worth double, and relative scoring doubles the points when 10% or fewer of the group called the result.

Can I join late in the season?

Yes. You can join at any point and start predicting from the next fixture. Missed matches score zero, so you start behind, but with relative scoring and doubled gameweeks a late joiner can still climb. Organizers often start a fresh mini-league in January for exactly this.

Can we play other competitions in the same group?

Yes. The same group can add the Champions League, the Europa League, LaLiga, or any of the 75+ competitions BeTeam covers — each with its own leaderboard.
